How far is Cameron’s Conservatives going to go?
An article today in the Daily Mail has lifted the lid on David Cameron’s plans for the Conservative Party. With the move away from the right wing and the possibility of a Conservative-Lib Dem pact at the next General Election it seems DC has been trying to snatch key people from the Lib Dems and Labour.
According to the article four different people may have been asked to come over to the Conservatives. They are Lib Dem MP David Laws, David Owen, Lord Adonis and Peter Mandelson! Just what the Party needs with the current UKIP debate going on!
The only good thing I can find about this is that apparently Gordon Brown has not spoken a single word to Peter Mandelson since he became Trade Commissioner!
Can you imagine Mandelson joining the Conservatives?

Mandy could never join us, but the article doesn’t really suggest that to be the case. However, Cameron must recognise that Mandelson is a useful asset to the United Kingdom in his current position, even if that’s something that many lefties in the Labour Party refuse to concede. He has vigorously defended our free market ideology over foreign mercantilism. Although failing to smooth things over with PR China on the importation of clothes and shoes, Mandy has been rather successful in fighting French interests with regards to trade with the USA.
Of course, it’s good news for the Tories for Brown to have failed to patch things up with Mandelson, but that’s relatively unsurprising (Brown has never patched anything up with anyone, let alone his archnemesis). However, the news that David Laws has been approached is just as welcome for me. The ‘Orange Book’ Lib Dems are probably closer to UKIP on the keystone issue of taxation than David Cameron is, so the idea of promoting defections of a few choice right-wing Lib Dems could not possibly force Tory voters to jump ship.

I broadley agree with oliver. That said, whilst one mught keep him as a commisioner, I could not think of him being in our party.
As for Lord David Owen, I don’t care for the man. See here:
