Life Patron - Margaret Thatcher

Margaret ThatcherPart of setting up the UCL Conservative Society Alumni Club was to research into the history of the Society. This included gathering information and photos from the past. So far we have been amazingly successful and know a lot more about the Society than we use to. For example we found out that the Society was established in 1910 (making it the oldest in the Country) and just today we have discovered that back in the 1980’s the Society made Margaret Thatcher a Life Patron of the Society.

Well today we have re-established her as a Life Patron and edited the Patrons page. Do have a look. It is with really great pleasure that I can announce this. Some ridiculous irrelevant Labour MP may have tabled a motion to get rid of the new Thatcher statue, but to us she is still a hero. She may have made some mistakes, but she saved this country from economic ruin and New Labour (and especially Gordon Brown) owe all there economic success to her – what a great lady!

UPDATE: Is there anyone else you would like us to invite to be a Patron of the Society?

  1. Hear Hear!

Out of interest, how on earth did you chance upon that discovery?

  2. From our guest of honour for tomorrow:

John Whittingdale OBE MP (former Political Secretary to Margaret Thatcher)

  3. Laura-Rose Says:

That’s so cool! So not only are we the oldest society in the country we also have a statue of our life patron in the Houses of Parliament.

  4. Could I nominate Jeremy Beadle to be a patron of the society. I always found him very, very funny, especially the moment when the person realises it has been a wind-up and they’ve been beadled. Does anyone second the nomination?
