Prime Minister: Gordon Brown
Deputy PM: Alan Johnson
Chancellor: Jack Straw
Home Secretary: David Milliband
Foreign Secretary: Margaret Beckett
I don’t think he’ll go with too major a reshuffle - the left of the party will undoubtedly be crushed in the leadership contest and I don’t believe there will be any need to accomodate them in the new cabinet. I think Milliband must have been given some incentive not to stand - a reward of senior cabinet perhaps? Chancellor would obviously have to go to a senior politician and I don’t feel that there are many other than Jack Straw available to do the job - John Reid has messed up too much at the home office, Clarke has forced Gordon into a leadership race (even if it is a pointless one) and many of the other older labour politicians, like Meacher, would be viewed as too left-wing. Beckett I feel will keep her job as she actually seems to do very little - no doubt that would suit power-happy Gordon.
These are of course all speculation - there may well be a few minor Brownites who will be given major promotions - those who resigned their junior cabinet positions last year in the mini coup? If there were to be any surprise packages for senior promotions I would go for either Alistair Darling, who worked with Brown at the treasury, or Hilary Benn as they both appear to be popular untarnished New Labour figures.
Ideally however I would like to see this:
Prime Minister: Gordon Brown
Deputy PM: Hazel Blears
Chancellor: John Prescott
Home Secretary: Tessa Jowell
Foreign Secretary: Des Browne
Imagine the ineptitude - ‘twould be fantastic for the tories … alas I fear it shan’t happen.

I would agree with Eamonn for his predicted cabinet possibly with the exception of Margaret Beckett.
The best way for Labour to lose the election would be to keep Hewitt and install Blears as DPM. Hewitt is hated by doctors, and clearly has made a mess of her job - anyone who watched Question Time (BBC) last Thurs, will have seen the feeling towards her. I don’t even need to describe how I feel about Blears - she will shoot herself in the foot one day.

Prime Minister: Gordon Brown
Deputy PM: David Milliband
Chancellor: Alistar Darling
Home Secretary: John Prescott
Foreign Secretary: Margaret Beckett
Some justification needed I think:
David Milliband for DPM as he seemed to be a popular second choice and apparently ‘everyone’ wanted him to run.
Alistar Darling just because his name amuses me and he’s not done anything that has really upset me yet, plus as far as I know he’s English. Have had enough of the Scots ruining sorry running our country and being in charge of our money.
John Prescott as hopefully they will send him to visit the rough areas in Britian and we’ll never see him again, also ‘Better the Devil’ you know, and it was rather amusing when he was egged some years back and attacked the person abusing him.
Margaret Beckett, as she seems to love going abroad cavaning so much she might as well stay there, or Brown might send her on a nice diplomatic visit to Iraq. Also she is already foriegn secretary and there is no real need to have a huge shake up.
Anyway you view it the future is still pretty bleak regardless of who is in what position.

I could not really care less who Gordon Brown chooses for his first cabinet. All he will be doing is recycling the same tired old faces, minus the neo-marxist Blairites.
Having said that, I suspect Brown will combine the role of Chancellor and PM: he’s such a control-freak that he won’t be able to give the position up, and whomever takes over will be nothing more than a public stand-in.

Plus, DPM is a worthless position anyway, Prescott’s tenure has meant the position carries little responsibility - with the obvious exception of dealing with the absence of a PM.

My predictions for the Cabinet are:
Prime Minister: Gordon Brown
Deputy PM: Alan Johnson
Chancellor: Alistair Darling (he may be tempted to put in Ed Balls but I think he will get a more junior post like health)
Home Secretary: David Miliband
Foreign Secretary: Jack Straw (getting his old job back)

Deputy PM & Leader of the Commons Jack Straw
Foreign Secretary Hilary Benn, building on his For Pol experience at DfID
Chancellor will be Alistair Darling as widely tipped
Home Sec and Minister for Women Tessa Jowell, to keep a woman in a top position
Baroness Amos back to DfID
Kinnock as Leader of the Lords
Hewitt to DCMS
Blears in at Health
DTI to be scrapped
milliband empire at DEFRA expanded with Energy, whilst Alan Johnson gets Science at DFES
Des Browne out of Defence
