Ealing Southall By-Election
Following the sad death of Piara Khabra there will be a by-election in Ealing Southall. It will take place on 19th July - a very short campaign. Traditionally this has been a Labour stronghold but as you all know in a by-election it’s everything to play for. This is a by-election where CF can make a real and lasting impact and really cement our newly acquired reputation as a campaigning powerhouse.
We are the first off the blocks and we have selected local businessman Tony Lit as our candidate for the election on July 19th. Meanwhile Labour are still arguing over all women shortlists and the Lib Dems are still trying to get Ming to select a candidate instead of talking about the time he was in the Olympics over and over and over.
The usual campaigning day programme will apply, meet at 10:30 and have an inspiring talking from the candidate, then spend a couple of hours leafleting, back to a local hostelry for some ales and lunch (on CCHQ) the out again at about 14:00 of a couple more hours and then returning to the pub for more ales.
More information can be found on the Party Volunteer Task Force site and the Facebook Group (more up to date). CF members from all around the Country will be getting involved and there will be a lot of drinking! I list the various campaign days below including ones UCL Conservatives Committee members will attend.

Unfortunately, I shall be abroad from the 5th until the 15th July but would love to help out in the By-Election campaign. Since I cannot do too much walking I can help with telephone cavassing (I have done so at Sutton and Cheam General and Local Elections) and I am very good at helping out at the Campaign Headquaters (helped at 2 Putney General Election Campaign) and many other London By-Election campaign.

“the Lib Dems are still trying to get Ming to select a candidate instead of talking about the time he was in the Olympics over and over and over.”
God, where to start with you chaps, eh? Unlike the centralising Tories, in the LibDems we don’t parachute candidates into seats. Ming doesn’t select candidates, the local party does, and the day after you wrote this, Ealing LD’s selected Nigel Bakhai, the same man who ran in 2005, beating the Tories into third place. He’s had a good start to the campaign, too, with Brij Mohan Gupta, Deputy Chair (Political) of Ealing Southall Conservatives and Vice-Chair of Southall Green and Southall Broadway Conservative ward parties defecting to the Libs over, funnily enough, CCO forcing the Ealing branch to “accept someone whose commitment to the party is less than a week old” (Mr Gupta’s words). Let battle commence!

This is indeed an excellent cause and Tony Lit is a great candidate! I’m thinking of heading down there myself, but for everyone else who is interested I saw the following call to arms on YouTube:
