UCL Conservative Society

On Monday a selection of STRG members, many of which were from UCL, gathered in the Royal Over Seas League to attend a drinks reception with former Prime Minister Sir John Major. Prior to his arrival members entertained themselves in the great Tory tradition of networking with other members from a wide variety of universities from all over the country.

Upon his arrival Sir John made an excellent speech about contemporary issues affecting the United Kingdom today and a few anecdotes from his time in office.

This was the followed by a Question and Answer session with the members. Questions were asked on a wide range of topics from Military service and the Education system through to ‘How do we solve the West Lothian question?’ After a few photographs and a chat to a few members Sir John was whisked down the road to the next part of this TRG event; The Black Tie Dinner at the Carlton Club.

Thank you to the STRG Committee for all the time and effort they put into organising this one. It was an honour to meet a former Conservative Prime Minister.
