Nick Webb - seeking re-election

Those of you who attended the Question Time will remember Nick Webb, the CF Area Chairman for Bristol & Gloucestershire. A big supporter of our who also came along to help in the Herefordshire SWAT action weekend. Nick is seeking re-election to the post of Area Chairman and on behalf of the society we wish him the best of luck! He has released his manifesto on his blog, which I thought I would include below. We all want a properly debated election, so any other candidates who want to post on this site are very welcome.
We’ve come a long way, we’re just getting started.
Campaigning
· More promotion of campaigning in our marginal and target seats.
· Particular work in the run up to the local elections in Cheltenham, Gloucester and Stroud.
Social Events
· Monthly socials in Gloucestershire & Bristol will be co-ordinated exclusively by the Branch Chairmen (with my support if required). These events should always be confirmed six weeks in advance so that the following event can be announced at the end of the previous one. Guest speakers can be arranged via me.
· In 2007 we held two larger events in Bristol, “How to be an MP” and “Something Like Question Time”. In 2008 I propose to build on these events with three large events. The CF Election Hustings arranged for January will be the first big event. I hope that at least one of the large events will be held in Gloucestershire.
Social Action Projects
· Each branch has already been informed that they should carry out at least one social action project during 2008. I will liaise with each branch early in the year to arrange a suitable project.
Deputy
· I will be asking Laura-Rose to continue in her role as Deputy Area Chairman. She has put in a lot of effort and produced excellent work to boost CF in Bristol and Glos. Without her involvement CF wouldn’t have been as successful as it has been. Due to university commitments we will be losing Laura-Rose for the latter part of 2008, I will make a judgement call then on whether to appoint a new Deputy.
Local Branches
· Bristol CF will continue to cover the seven constituencies of Bristol & South Gloucestershire.
· Gloucestershire CF will continue to cover the six constituencies of modern Gloucestershire.
· I hope the recent increase in Gloucestershire people visiting Bristol CF and vice versa will continue.
· I will put forward plans during the year to allow for the election of future branch chairmen.
University Branches
· I will continue to support our university branches and work to build links further between these branches and local Conservatives.
· I will seek to form a branch at Hartpury College.
New Leaders
· Over the past year and a bit we have done a lot to establish CF in Bristol and Gloucestershire. It is important that this is not a short term revival and that CF is stabilised for a strong long term future. This will be my last year as Area Chairman. I want to see a generation of CF leaders emerge this year so that there is no doubt we will have a pro-active Conservative Future in these parts for years to come.

I second that it has been a joy to work under Nick in Gloucestershire and Bristol CF and look forward to working with him in the future!

Thank you Richard, that’s a very kind write up.
Thanks too to Laura, I think it is fair to say we have a good team together in Bristol and Glos now and Laura is at the heart of it. We need to boost the membership numbers a bit and make sure there is a greater impact for campaign days but the structure to do that is in place with hard working and keen branch Chairmen.
I hope to catch up with some of the UCL Conservatives at future events. Before I go can I quickly extend an invite to the following events:
19th January - campaign day in Cheltenham
26th January - campaign day in Keynsham
27th January - CF Election Hustings in Bristol
