TPA Call to Action: Council Tax Protest at Barnet County Court!

What: Council Tax Protest
Where: Meet at Finchley Central Underground Station (Northern Line)
When: 9.45AM Monday 14 January 2008
“We kick off 2008 with a protest at Barnet County Court in support of TPA activist Richard Stratton. Mr Stratton’s situation is a prime example of a greedy local council trying to bleed more money out of hardworking taxpayers.
Richard’s case involves his council trying to obtain council tax payments from a derelict property he owns, which Hertsmere council claims is a second home. Councils, however, were given the powers to declare properties unfit for habitation back in 2000. Had the council used this power, no council tax would be paid on the property because no services are used on the building. But when have you seen a council willing to forego the chance to claim more in council tax?
So Richard is going to Court to fight the four years council tax Hertsmere council is trying to claim off him, a sum running into the thousands of pounds. Richard says:
“I’ve been threatened already with prison, bankruptcy and attachment of my property over this issue. I am determined to fight it all the way. We can’t let these jumped up little jobsworths get away with this otherwise they’ll be sending out council tax bills on garden sheds and dog kennels next!”
Richard’s case is to be heard at Barnet County Court, next Monday 14th January 2008 at 10AM. Come and join us stand with him and protest against high taxes. We’ll have placards, leaflets and information to rally support for lower taxes! Feel free to bring friends and fellow supporters along too. The more people we have protesting against high taxes, the more we will be able to win that majority for lower taxes and the tax cuts we so dearly need.
You can see reports and footage of our last protest here and here. If you like what you see, come along and join us on the 14th.
