UCL Conservatives have recently received this message from the TRG and STRG about an upcoming event to do with the New Earth Deal Campaign. The main speaker is John Prescott and while he is not a Tory MP the event is not a labour specific as it is run by the Council of Europe therefore making it non-partisan. ‘Prescott launches social media climate change campaign ‘New Earth Deal’ to support deal at Copenhagen
Tory Reform Group members are invited by former Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott to the launch of the Council of Europe’s climate change campaign at 9am on Wednesday August 26th at Rich Mix, 35-47 Bethnal Green Rd, London, E1 6LA
Mr Prescott, who negotiated the Kyoto Treaty and is the Council of Europe’s Rapporteur on Climate Change, will launch the ‘New Earth Deal’ campaign just over 100 days before the start of the UN Climate Change Conference at Copenhagen.
The Copenhagen conference aims to establish an ambitious global climate agreement for the period from 2012 when the first commitment period under the Kyoto Treaty expires.
Mr Prescott will provide more details about the Council of Europe’s innovative campaign and be available for interview on the day along with the CoE’s advisor on climate change, Professor Jouni Paavola from the Centre for Climate Change Economics and Policy at the University of Leeds’ School of Earth and Environment.
Guests and media will be asked to arrive for 8.45am.
