Conservative Future: Day for Darfur

April 12th, 2008 Starbuck Posted in Event News No Comments »

TOMORROW!

Becoming an organisation that appeals to a broader range of political activists, and becoming more accessible is the first step towards rebuilding Conservative Future so that we can expand in a whole new direction.

To that end, we are pleased to announce that we are official supporters of “Day for Darfur 5”, a protest against the crisis in Darfur with particular focus on the affect that the situation is having on the children of Darfur.

When David Cameron visited the region last year, he did so because the humanitarian crisis is affecting millions of individuals and we should be doing more to alleviate the suffering. It is unacceptable to stand aside whilst government back militia attack innocent civilians.

We hope you can join us, Conservative Future and Andrew Mitchell MP, Shadow International Development Secretary, in London on Sunday, April 13th. For more information please contact Anastasia Beaumont-Bott on 07719797344

National Chairman, Conservative Future

Has the Left lost it’s way?

March 12th, 2008 Starbuck Posted in Event News No Comments »

Wednesday 19th March @ 6:00pm

UCL Conservatives have been invited to the following event:

Nick Cohen is a best-selling author and renowned journalist of the Observer, the Evening Standard and the New Statesmen. Moreover, he was one of the most prominent British left-wingers to take issue with the stance taken by liberals and leftists alike toward Islamism.

His best-selling recent book “What’s Left?” argued that somewhere along the line, the Left had lost its way, distracted by anti-Americanism and post-Modernism. Nick Cohen, therefore, is a unique speaker from within the Left, both a critic and someone hoping to point a way to a future Left.

His speech will be “Why Does the Left support the Far Right”, on the 19th March at 6pm, a Forward Left event to which anyone is welcome, seeing as his opinions on war, terrorism and liberalism are important to all political parties in this age.

CLWCF Mini Campaign in Marylebone

February 26th, 2008 Richard Jackson Posted in Event News 1 Comment »

CLWCFThis Thursday (28th) we’re doing a small maildrop in the Marylebone High Street Ward of Westminster.

Don’t panic, we’re not doing the whole ward, we only targeting known Conservatives, with personally addressed mail. It’s a small but urgent and important job. I see no reason why with your support we can’t get it sorted in 90 minutes, followed by an entirely disproportionate time in a local tavern refreshing ourselves…

For the event our gracious Area Chairman, Mr Oliver Cooper Esq. has granted the use of his palatial residence on Warren Street for our base of operations, and so we ask that you rendezvous with us there at 6:30pm. Nearest tube, obviously, is Warren Street.

I suggest you take down Ed Hallam’s number - 07793 075 638 - so that you can call him with any problems on the day.

We look forward to seeing you!

TPA Call to Action: Council Tax Protest at Barnet County Court!

January 8th, 2008 Richard Jackson Posted in Event News 1 Comment »

TPA

What: Council Tax Protest
Where: Meet at Finchley Central Underground Station (Northern Line)
When: 9.45AM Monday 14 January 2008

“We kick off 2008 with a protest at Barnet County Court in support of TPA activist Richard Stratton. Mr Stratton’s situation is a prime example of a greedy local council trying to bleed more money out of hardworking taxpayers.

Richard’s case involves his council trying to obtain council tax payments from a derelict property he owns, which Hertsmere council claims is a second home. Councils, however, were given the powers to declare properties unfit for habitation back in 2000. Had the council used this power, no council tax would be paid on the property because no services are used on the building. But when have you seen a council willing to forego the chance to claim more in council tax?

So Richard is going to Court to fight the four years council tax Hertsmere council is trying to claim off him, a sum running into the thousands of pounds. Richard says:

“I’ve been threatened already with prison, bankruptcy and attachment of my property over this issue. I am determined to fight it all the way. We can’t let these jumped up little jobsworths get away with this otherwise they’ll be sending out council tax bills on garden sheds and dog kennels next!”

Richard’s case is to be heard at Barnet County Court, next Monday 14th January 2008 at 10AM. Come and join us stand with him and protest against high taxes. We’ll have placards, leaflets and information to rally support for lower taxes! Feel free to bring friends and fellow supporters along too. The more people we have protesting against high taxes, the more we will be able to win that majority for lower taxes and the tax cuts we so dearly need.

You can see reports and footage of our last protest here and here. If you like what you see, come along and join us on the 14th.
