UCL Tories have built up a reputation, not just in London but across the country, for our consistent ability to get teams of activists out to campaign days and pound the streets. We’re always the last ones canvassing but mysteriously always the first at the bar…

Roadtrip 2015

Hundreds of activists out in Newark

Hundreds of activists out in Newark

The last year or so has seen a revolution in campaigning for young conservatives with the development of Roadtrip2015. UCLU Conservatives are proud to say that we’ve been part of Roadtrip since the beginning. We’ve knocked on countless doors and finished countless days with countless well deserved free pints.

For anyone who’s never been, Roadtrip is a great initiative which gets hundreds of young activists out to different target seats around the country every weekend with a promise of free travel, free drinks and a free curry! You can keep up with Roadtrip on their Facebook page and we’ll also let you know about future Roadtrips we’ll be attending in What’s On.

Our Local Constituency

UCL is situated within the Holborn & St. Pancras parliamentary constituency. This is a large slender constituency stretching from Covent Garden in the south to Highgate in the North and has one of the largest and most diverse electorates in the UK. The constituency contains some of the most famous institutions in England, ranging from the British Museum and British Library, King’s Cross and Euston stations, Primrose Hill and Camden Market, Parliament Hill and Highgate Cemetery, UCL (the 4th best University in the World!), LSE, Kings College, many other Universities of London and of course, yours truly, the UCLU Conservative Society!

UCL itself sits within the Bloomsbury ward. There are 10 other wards, Camden Town with Primrose Hill, Cantelowes, Gospel Oak, Haverstock, Highgate, Holborn & Covent Garden, Kentish Town, King’s Cross, Regent’s Park, St Pancras & Somers Town.

Our incumbent MP is the notorious Frank (I still live in a council house) Dobson. Not only is he a Labour MP, but he is a bad one at that. The Society continues to look forward to helping out local Conservatives in future elections!

We hope to encourage our members to shadow more experienced Conservatives on campaigns, ask questions and meet new people who are genuinely interested in politics. More often than not a Saturday morning’s work will be followed with a pub lunch treat from the person you were campaigning for! Please do join us and do your bit for a local Conservative candidate. Get in touch to find out more about our upcoming campaign plans!

Student Union Politics

Somebody needs to do something about this lot.

Somebody needs to do something about this lot.

As important as general elections are, members have recently wetted their appetite for politics closer to home, within 25 Gordon Street! Traditionally the haunt of socialists and revolutionaries, our members have a tough fight ahead if we are to be heard in UCL Union and the NUS.

Despite what some people say, student politics does matter because they effect our day to day student experiences. It is also a great opportunity to brush up on your diplomacy skills and fill your CV. If you want further information then please contact our Campaigns Officer, Dan Bennet.
